Strangers Photographers About

Alex left his native England in 2004, and now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and young daughter.

“I moved to Los Angeles in 2004 for work, and became fascinated by both the incredible Southern California light, and the vastness of America’s urban, suburban and rural spaces. The sheer scale of the country is shocking to a Brit; the sense of space, and of ‘spaces’ in general, is different here to what I’ve been used to back home in the UK. This led me to explorations of our interactions with these spaces, particularly those that fall between the cracks of everyday use. These ‘in-between’ spaces that both divide and link more heavily-trafficked locations often contain a unique sense of history (both social and personal); a set of connections that they simultaneously display and obscure. These connections between people and place are what are driving me at the moment”.

Alex is currently working on a project entitled “When All Is Said And Done…”, which can be seen in progress at his website: www.alexjdsmith.com.
